Matt McLaughlin
I graduated with a BAvMan from Massey (extramural) in Aug 2006.
Since then, I have continued to work where I've been since 1995: now in the position of Senior Boeing 777 Captain with Cathay Pacific Airways, based in Hong Kong.
In 2015 I published a non-fiction flying memoir, Flying the Knife Edge - New Guinea Bush Pilot, the first edition of which sold out in Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea. The second edition continues to sell well as both a paperback and eBook, available on amazon.com and the Book Depository (free global shipping).
In May this year I travelled to New York, to accept a Silver Medal at the 2017 Independent Publisher Book Awards. My book won this award in the Australia/NZ Non-fiction category. These awards have been running for more than 20 years and in 2017 attracted more than 5000 entries from 14 countries.
I am presently enrolled as a Masters student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) in the USA, and I'm half way towards a Masters in Aeronautical Science (MAS), majoring in Aerospace Safety Systems. Last month I was nominated for an ERAU Presidential Scholarship, and I'm in the process of applying for an internship with NASA, at their Ames Research Facility in California.
