Collette Dinnigan

Collette Dinnigan is a global fashion phenomenon. Born in South Africa and raised in New Zealand, she graduated with a diploma in fashion design from the Wellington Polytechnic School of Design in 1984. She then moved to Australia where she worked in the costume department for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. By 1990 she had realised her ambition and established her own fashion label, and began to grow her international portfolio with buyers from Neiman Marcus, Barney’s and Harvey Nichols.

With a desire to create clothes that women would want to wear, combined with the skills she learnt at polytechnic, her stylish clothes were immediately popular and in 1995 she became the first Australian-based designer invited to show in Paris. Collette has received multiple international business and fashion awards and in 2005 was honoured with a stamp issue by Australian Post. Her business has continued to expand to include diffusion labels and interior design. In 2017 she was awarded an Order of Australia, inducted into the Australian Designer’s Institute Hall of Fame, and was also the Special Guest Editor for Vogue Living’s ‘Italian’ issue.

Collette’s label has evolved and includes lingerie, leisurewear, bridal couture, children’s wear and eyewear. Her colourful feminine creations are sold in stores around the world and worn by stars such as Angelina Jolie and Naomi Watts. She continues to be celebrated as one of the most successful fashion and interior designers in Australasia.
